READ TO YOU: THE GIFT OF A AFRICAN OBAMA
The sculpture of Ali Bongo Ondimba to 52,695 dollars to 900 dollars traditional Beji Caid Essebsi, return on gifts previously given to President Obama in 2011 from its African counterparts carpet.
Document 231 pages listing the gifts given in 2011 to Barack Obama, his family and senior U.S. officials suggests a needle in a haystack. We learn that in September 2011 Ali Bongo Ondimba has been very generous. Gabon's president offered his guest a sculpture of Daum, a prestigious French crystal, worth 52,695 dollars. Nigerian Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is merely a small gold bust (780 dollars), and Alpha Conde of Guinea mask carved ebony (850 dollars).
Probably less sensitive to sculpture, Benin Boni Yayi sent the Obamas ten pieces of fabric from Vlisco, prestigious house founded in Holland in 1864, an African painting, several tablecloths, table service and a bread basket (total value 1285 dollars). As for Saydou Bouda, Ambassador of Burkina Washington, he split two statuettes (worth 840 dollars).
The palm of pomp
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has offered a black and white dagger with a leather case (U.S. $ 385), and the king of Morocco, on the tenth anniversary of September 11, a black and white photograph depicting a child wrapped in an American flag (650 dollars). Beji Caid Essebsi of Tunisia played the local card with a traditional carpet ($ 900), and Ali Aujali Libyan ambassador to Washington, a figurine of Swarovski jewelery, perfume Lola by Marc Jacob and a box of chocolates. But the palm of glitz comes naturally to the princes of the Gulf, including Hamad bin Ali Al Attiyah, Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, which U.S. officials buried under a deluge of perfumes, jewelery, watches price. Cost of these gifts: $ 108 625.61.
