ABDOULAYE BATHILY COMMOMERATION OF THE May 68 : "We must review the legend about Senghor"

May 68 actors met yesterday afternoon in the gardens of Warc (Research Centre of West Africa) to commemorate the events of May 68. An opportunity seized by Prof. Abdoulaye Bathily actor of these events to request a reconsideration of the legend built around the first president of Senegal, Leopold Sedar Senghor.

Review the legend around President Senghor, is that yesterday asked Professor Abdoulaye Bathily to commemorate the events of May 68. To believe Professor Bathily, this legend does not match reality. When the students came in motion, the regime's first president Leopold Sedar Senghor released as heavy artillery to suppress. For this, all means were good. Some student leaders and student of the era, including Prof. Abdoulaye Bathily Diack Mbaye, Mamadou Diop Decroix were conscripted into the army. In this operation, some were abused. Moreover, some of them, like Mamadou Diop Decroix exhibit traces on his head butts security forces Senghor. They were thrown into the bush in Tambacounda, Casamance in the patrol section at borders to prevent elements of Guinea Bissau from entering the country. Which made them each to death. In fact one of their comrades was killed following an attack by elements of Guinea Bissau. All of which are said to Professor Abdoulaye Bathily there was a legend all around Senghor. This does not, according to Professor Bathily to reality. At 68, he says, Senegal had a national anthem, a president of the republic, but it was not independent. But the events of M 68 have laid the foundation of the dynamics of citizenship in Senegal.
The philosopher Mactar Diack, returned on the causes of these events. According to him, it's all part of the plan Senghor decision to split the scholarships. This year, the government was surprised by the sheer number of students admitted to the university. Situation due, he said, the removal of part of the Baccalaureate. This fractionation scholarship has students in a tizzy. But the spark that ignited the campus, according to the philosopher Mactar Diack, one of the key players in these events, it is a story of sheets. Services of social work at the University, had stayed two weeks without changing linens students. They have taken advantage of this odd to pour their anger. It was left for a strike that would shake the regime Senghor.
For its part, Mbaye Diack said that during these events, the Minister of Education at the time, Ibrahima Wone had summoned the students to kidnap his office. Senegalese students were taken to the Police. Foreign students, they were driven to the border to be repatriated home. To support their peers, other students have deserted the university. They have all given their key and left the campus. Foreign students took to turn the boat back home. An unforeseen situation by France and Senegal. France finally reminded the students. They have naturally set conditions before returning to university. Among them, the recognition of student movements, which had been banned at the university.
