INNOVATION AWARD FOR AFRICA 2014 - The deadline for submissions extended until November 30

The African Foundation for Innovation (AIF ) today announced in Lagos, Nigeria , in a statement received by writing " IGFM " it will extend the deadline for submission of applications for innovation Prize for Africa ( PIA) in 2014 to 30 November 2013.

 The PIA is an initiative that engages entrepreneurs and innovators that provide market-based solutions that improve efficiency and generate savings for Africa. Participating in a round table on the theme of innovation in Nigeria , the representative of PIA stressed the need to invest in innovation to accelerate economic growth on the continent.

"Africa is experiencing one of the fastest growing economies in recent history, with an average of 6%. Innovation has played and will continue to play a vital role in this growth , and in this regard, the PIA continues its mission to identify innovators who contribute to the sustainable development of Africa and create solutions to the challenges daily from the mainland , "said Pauline Mujawamariya , Program Director of PIA .
This extension is in response to requests from many countries indicate that their innovative heard about the contest a little late and would need more time to prepare and submit their applications effectively . To date, the PIA has attracted over 1350 applications from 48 countries. The PIA aims to promote innovation developed and consolidated in Africa to drive change and overall development for the continent and its people and allow them to be competitive on global platforms.
The PIA in 2014 will focus on 1 ) agriculture and agro- industry , 2 ) the environment, energy and water, 3) health and well -being, 4) information technology and communications, and 5) the secondary and tertiary sectors.
Only innovations Africans for Africans are eligible to participate in PIA 2014. Africans in the diaspora can also register if their innovations are significant for Africa. The winning innovation will win a cash prize worth U.S. $ 100,000 , and the two finalists will receive 25 000 USD each.
