UN condemns racist attacks against Taubira

The High Commissioner for Human Rights, a UN agency, has strongly condemned Friday the racist attacks against the French Minister of Justice Christiane Taubira. "We condemn racist attacks on the subject for several weeks French Minister of Justice, Christiane Taubira, including the cover of a right-wing weekly Minute on Wednesday with a photo of the Minister accompanied by the caption: Maligne like a monkey, banana Taubira found, said a door- word of the High Commissioner at a briefing in Geneva.

According to him, "racist intent behind the pun is no doubt, despite the protests of the magazine," which claims to have used two French expressions, "the second of which is colloquially used to describe a person in good shape. " OHCHR also denounces other attacks Ms. Taubira suffered in recent weeks. These "totally unacceptable abuses against a politician known because of his skin color is a clear manifestation of the rise of racism, xenophobia and intolerance against ethnic or religious minorities and migrants in many European countries, "said the High Commissioner.
The UN agency also reiterates the recommendations addressed to France by the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which requires him to use all possible means to counter a rising tide of racism and xenophobia. OHCHR had already condemned in July similar racist attacks against the Italian Minister for Integration, Cecile Kyenge Source 7sur7...
